Update scenarios for the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area
Jester Strategy has been working with the Amsterdam Economic Board (the Board). Years ago, members of team Jester supported the Board in developing the first set of scenarios for the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area (MRA). On the basis of this scenario set, a strategic dialogue about the future has been conducted with industry, government and knowledge institutions in recent years. Jester has supported various sessions for the Board, but has also made various translations for municipalities in the region and guided them in thinking about the future. This varied from thinking about the logistics of the future to 'stress testing' municipal spatial plans based on the scenarios.
With help from a 'Early Warning System(EWS) by Jester, the likelihood of the scenarios is being monitored by an expert panel. By looking at which of the MRA scenarios are getting closer, parties in the MRA can make timely adjustments in order to become even more adaptable.
In 2016 it was time to take a closer look at the axis cross. Were the axes still relevant after what has happened in recent years? The conclusion, partly fueled by the results of the EES, was 'yes'. Both core uncertainties were still highly relevant and uncertain:
- How is the economy of the future organized?
- What is the future of Europe?
It was therefore not necessary to draw up scenarios again. However, the Board has decided to update the scenarios. New trends are emerging and you have to prepare for them too. The Board's website contains the trends and the updated scenarios.
